Requirements for CMS Use
You will need a computer with access to the Internet. If you are a full-time NMU student (12 credits or more) you are eligible to be issued a notebook computer. For more information on NMU's TLC Initiative go to http://www.acs.nmu.edu/11.0.php. You will need some type of connection from your computer to the Internet. The faster the connection, the faster you can access course information. Some parts of some courses may require a fast connection. Check the course syllabus and/or with the course instructor for more information. Options are:
- Dial-in - slowest
- DSL (digital subscriber line)
- Wireless
- Cable
- T1 - fastest

You will need your NMU network ID and password. Type your ID and password in lower case letters. For information about your network ID and password click and follow links within http://myuser.nmu.edu
NMU uses WebCT, a course management system to provide course information and activities via the Internet. The web address for WebCT is http://webct.nmu.edu

SPYWARE: The more you use the Internet on your computer the more susceptible you will be to spyware invading your computer. Spyware can affect your ability to log-in to WebCT. It is recommended you run an anti-spyware program periodically (at least once a week). For computers using Windows, you may download and run Microsoft Windows Defender at http://download.nmu.edu/files.php?plat=win&cat=util
